QUOTES

SEASON 1

EP 01

"There are stories out there that need to be told.

There's shit out there that's just... you know, wrong.

People need to know about it.

That's the job.

It's not a complicated job, other than how it'll mess with your life.

News used to be a bunch of guys who look like me huddled around a desk at a Page One meeting deciding what the news was.

This little fuck changed all of that.

I've been fired from three papers, hired back at two of them.

Third got gobbled up by Knight Ridder.

So, to be clear here,

I'm a godamn reservoir of do's and don'ts.

Your sources are your Sherpas.

Your editor is your priest.

Honesty is not a tactic."

-Daniel Molloy

"The product was desire, and it came in as many forms as there were ways to move it."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"My business and my raised religion were at odds, and the, uh... latencies within me, well,

I beat those back with a lie I told myself about myself... that I was a red-blooded son

of the South, seeking a*s before absolution."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"I had planned to make a new lifefor myself in St. Louis.

That was to be my destiny.

And now I know I was right. "

"Emasculation and admiration in equal measure.

I wanted to murder the man, and I wanted to be the man."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Days are for sleeping off the previous evening's damage.

Perfect cover for a vampire."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"It was a cold winter that year, and Lestat was my coal fire.

And I found myself for the very first time, to anyone other than Paul, confiding my struggles to another man.

I was being hunted.

And I was completely unaware it was happening."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"It's not an interview; it's a... it's a fever dream told to an idiot."

-Daniel Molloy

"The first time I laid eyes on you, your beautiful face, I saw that sorrow. I did not know how it got there or why it was so voluminous.

I can take away that sorrow, Louis. I can give you that death you begged your feeble, blind, degenerate, nonexistent god for.

But I can do it joyfully. I can swap this life of shame, swap it out for a dark gift and a power you can't begin to imagine.

You just have to ask me for it. You just have to nod your beautiful head and say yes."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I am cursed with my father's temper at times. The rudeness is all mine."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Be my companion, Louis. Be all the beautiful things you are, and be them without apology. For all eternity."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I love you, Louis. You are loved. I send my love to you, and you send it back round to me. And this circle, this home we've barely had a glimpse of, know it frightens me as much as it does you."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"It is difficult to explain how his words disarmed me, how efficiently succinct and impenetrable his argument was. All my conceptions, even my guilt and my wish to die, seemed utterly important.

And I completely forgot myself and the barbaric scene that surrounded me. For the first time in my life, I was seen.

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"He drained me to the very threshold of death... The blood, it came as a dull roar at first. And then a pounding, like the pounding of a drum, growing louder and louder as if some enormous creature were coming through a dark and alien forest.

A huge drum. And then, there came a pounding of another drum, as if another giant were coming behind him, each giant intent on his own drum, giving no notice to the rhythm of the other. Throbbing in my lips, fingers and flesh of my temple.

Above all, in my veins. Drum and then the other drum. I opened my eyes, and it was then that I realized the drum was my heart and the other drum had been his. I saw him sitting a length away from me, radiant. And we sat there for some time... in throes of increasing wonder... The end. The beginning."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Yeah, well, mortality beats a heavy drum."

-Daniel Molloy

"Only the impossible can do the impossible"

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Bless me Father, for I have sinned. Grievously sinned."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"I give death to those deserving. I'm not the Devil. You were wrong about that. But I can give you death."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I've seen death over and over and over and over again. It's boring."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Hunting is an art. You have the power to subdue anyone you want, but sometimes restraint is your most powerful weapon."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"He had a way about him those first years, Lestat. Preternaturally charming, occasionally thoughtful. He was my murderer, my mentor, my lover and my maker -- all of those things at once. He didn't choose me to be his doormat.

I knew he enjoyed it when I fought back, but there was present a kind of worship on my part. The earth beneath me always felt liquid."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Well, I don't say that you have to enjoy it! Kill them swiftly if you have to, but do it! Embrace what you are! You are a killer, Louis!"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

" If you listen to me, if you finally submit to your nature, you will be filled, Louis, with all the life you can hold. You will see death in all its beauty, life as it is only known at the very point of death. You alone, of all creatures, can see death with that impunity. You alone, under the rising moon, can strike like the hand of God."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

" I realize the hypocrite I am, emphasizing cleanliness after I overindulged, but a proper disposal is the penance of a sated vampire. And you won't always have a conveniently-located graveyard nearby."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Vampires are killers. Apex predators whose all-seeing eyes were meant to give them detachment, the ability to see a human life in its entirety, not with any mawkish sorrow, but with the thrilling satisfaction of being the end of that life and having a hand in the divine plan."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Don't expect every reader to swallow that one."

-Daniel Molloy

"You are a library of confusion!"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

'The sun gives life to everything but us. I should have told you that. The life of a vampire has its challenges and its rewards. But I think New Orleans, with its music, culture, cuisine, shipping yards, conventioneers, thrill-seeking tourists far-flung from their homes, the laissez-faire attitude of the local police force... [chuckles] Oh yes, the perfect setting for a vampire home... a vampire romance."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Well, tell me what I believe, Louis. Excavate the hoarded thoughts buried beneath my damned soul."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Your night had nothing to do with ridding the world of criminals or finding some morality to buoy your existence. You're ashamed of what we are."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"For the infinitesimal time, you're a vampire."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"A fish that doesn't swim. A bird refusing flight. You're going to struggle. I fear for the feline population of New Orleans."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I mean, usually when you're a little too close to it, the abused still loves the abuser, but you flipped it completely on its head"

-Daniel Molloy

"Fifty years later, you talk like he was your soulmate. Like you were locked in some fucked up gothic romance. Why?"

-Daniel Molloy

"We'll be together ten thousand nights, a hundred thousand. What we're doing is hard. Anything that wards off the dungs of the everlasting road we walk, the pleasures of the flesh, the pleasures of the kill, for me. Pleasures of the good book by the fire for you."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"So that torturous death was for your people? That garish display of his body like some public art piece was for your people?

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"You did what you did because it gave you pleasure. Companion of the Dark Gift, finally. We should make this our anniversary."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

EP 02

"For a killing machine, I kinda like her."

-Daniel Molloy

"Stop squirming and watch. Remember this, his face as it melts. This is why we don't get close to mortals. Because sooner or later, they end up dead."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

EP 03

"When your mother sees the Devil in your eyes, it's a hard assessment to abandon. Am I from the Devil? Is my very nature that of the Devil? I had hedged against the question, but now it completely overwhelmed me."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Now here's a treat I think you're ready for. This is what the meat calls a 'lover's lane,' and by my estimation, no blood is sweeter. Young people, swollen with passion, denied spirits by this senseless prohibition, park along this lonely stretch to contemplate that most mysterious of mathematical equations -- how one plus one... becomes one."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"You've been too sheltered, my belladonnic beauty."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Of course... Of course! Of course. As long as you come home to me. Of course"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

EP 04

"Memory is a monster. We forget. It doesn't."

-Daniel Molloy

"There is one thing about being a vampire that I most fear above all else... and that is loneliness. You can't imagine the emptiness. A void stretching out for decades at a time. You take this feeling away from me, Louis. We must stay together and take precaution... and never part."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"You'll see as your powers grow, you can see their thoughts, like a one-reeler almost. Dull, monotonous picture shows. It's a very distracting gift, the petty musings of meat."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"You'll have to tell me yourself. A sacrifice is made when the Dark Gift is shared."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"The architects of our creation mean to humble us. We're at the mercy of the other's discretion."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"You're not one of them anymore, fledgling. You chase after phantoms of your former self. I'll break you of it."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Your body is confused. Your lungs feel like water, your heart, fire. You feel as if you're dying... Because you are."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"What a waste that would be. I have two centuries walked this earth and can report, you have no twin. No one as angry, as stubborn, as unaccommodating, as maddening..."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Sound like trash to me, as loving, as dedicated, as thoughtful, as imperfectly perfect as you've become. You're a challenge every sunset, Saint Louis, and I'd have it no other way."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

" And music, that was where Lestat separated man from food. Music pierced his damned soul, and any humans who were involved in the creation of it existed on an elevated plane in his eyes. I was moved to see he too had his human attachments."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

" I loved her unconditionally. All the noise, the chaos, the crisis of my former existence, silenced. The simple joy of her hand in mine."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"A band-aid for a shitty marriage?"

-Daniel Molloy

"He treats us like shit and you take it! Why is that?"

-Claudia

"And you, cruel as the Devil ever made, to refuse me one love when you've got two!"

-Claudia

" You draw me into your gloom."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I spend time following Louis and Lestat, now that I am my own woman, with no obvious sense of why I follow them, other than meaning slowly disintegrates without them, my companions in immortality. But today at the cemetery, I finally understood something so obvious, which I had pondered for a decade--why they made me... To be Louis's sister."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Emotionally, I was vacant. I longed for Claudia. I ached for her. I walked the streets of New Orleans with the shifting masses of the unfed, the addicts born of despair, sending out telepathic thoughts of remorse in every direction. But she had shut her mind off to me for some time then. And so I was left to revisit old haunts, desperate for connection. "

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Context. Sure. Warn the world about a forthcoming apocalypse. Or maybe inspire a line of sexy Claudia Halloween costumes. Or a cool dismemberment trend amongst the suburban Sylvia Plath set. Once you put it out there, they decide what it is. It can get away from you."

-Daniel Molloy

"The absence of metaphor is so striking."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Should I do like you instead? Read the first ten pages of every book? Pass myself off as cultured?"

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Well, at least you're listening. I sit there thinking, 'Light yourself on fire, see if he would notice!'"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Use my middling command of literary canon to impress some hapless human I'm gonna kill in a few hours anyway.'

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"I've read a lot of books. Started with Persia and Babylon, the old gods who longed for blood. A lot of it was popcorn, but a few old tomes. A Romanian tract on 'vampirs.' A strange, old Hungarian text, 'Masticatione Mortuorum,' the 'chewing dead.' I plan to leave for that part of the world as soon as I can."

-Claudia

"Perused a few folklore anthologies, and now you're going to cross the ocean and take on a society of monsters."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I fought myself a million times, fought my nature, controlled my temper. I never once harmed you."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I have waited, Louis. I have patiently waited, in vain, for you to love me as I love you. Just say it. Say, 'Lestat, I am never going to love you.' It would help me a great deal to hear that from your lips. Your quivering, hateful lips."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

EP 05

"His love is a small box he keeps you in. Don't stay in it."

-Claudia

"If you could find them, which you won't, they would shred you to strips, because you are built like a bird, because you are a mistake!"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"But her absence would lay bare who we were without her, a simmering pot of resentments."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

EP O6

" In many ways, they were more like each other than they wanted to admit. They both sought out weakness. They reveled in the exploitation of it, and they romped with joy as I played audience to their joyless exchange."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

" I admire your steadfast pursuit of a game you clearly have no acumen for."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I was someone I don't want to be anymore. I've changed. Let me prove it to you. I'm nothing without you. I'm nothing without both of you. If you want me to go away, just say so. I'll obey you. I'll leave your life forever."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"This silence is cruel. And you were never cruel, Louis."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

" Better ugly than blind."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"But he's not mortal. No illness can touch him. You threaten a life that will endure until the end of the world."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

SEASON 2

EP 01

"Your love was in a box pondering a premediated neck wound, according to Claudia. She wrote it, let's choose to believe it."

-Daniel Molloy

"Hmm! Four years of grim wayfaring and still no sight of the benevolent vampire. So, how does denial manifest itself tonight? Sniffing German brandy?"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"] I do... Oh. Purgatory is a lovely room for music. I have a new piece, Concerto for Gashed Throat and Orchestra."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"Don't say it again. You ruin it with remorse. It was a perfect betrayal. You gave me a death of distinction."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I am a magical vodka Nеgrо. Having the first alright night in quite a while."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"I wanna say something to you. I don't need to hear anything back, I just need you to hear me. Hard words and soft words. The hard. Our life is shit. It's been shit. It is shit. It's gonna be shit again. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. No one's watching, no one cares. A shit life beats no life. But where we're going now we can't be running away again. Doesn't mean we forget what we saw. What she did in front of us. If I see you going that way, I'm going pull you back. I don't need that from you. As long as you walk the Earth, I'll never taste the fire, you understand me? We're going to find others like us. And if it ain't here, cos life is shit, or I fսck it up again, or you fսck it up, we'll go to the next place. We can't be the only good ones out there. Soft words. If you were the last vampire on Earth it would be enough. You and me. Me and you."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

EP 02

"I don't know what I need. Maybe a new brain in my head. Why can't I tell him this? I suppose I'm afraid my joylessness will take away his happiness, and maybe I don't want his feelings to depend on mine anymore. Maybe I want to be joyfully joyless. A forever switch of wild opposites at play."

-Claudia

"You must understand, in a community as small as ours, such crossings of immortal paths is expected, perhaps more common than you would think."

-Armand

EP 03

"His words had been my thoughts for half a century. If it had come from me, they wouldn't have believed it."

-Armand

"Never say I love you to a raging narcissist."

-Daniel Molloy

" And I locked away those words for another 150 years."

-Armand

" I'm evil, evil as any vampire who ever lived. I've killed over and over and I will do it again. Why does that make you as evil as any vampire? Aren't there gradations to evil? Is evil a great perilous gulf one falls into with the first sin?"

-Armand

" I mean, kinda. It's not as logical as you're saying, but it's dark and it's empty, and I can't see the bottom of it."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"But if evil is without gradation and it does exist, this state of evil then, only one sin is needed. That's your argument."

-Armand

"Evil is the product of the ability of humans to make abstract what is concrete."

-Jean-Paul Sartre

"Then surely, there are degrees and variations to goodness? The goodness of the child which is innocence. The goodness of the nun who lives a life of self-deprivation and service. The goodness of the saints, the goodness of the midwives. And how is this evil achieved? How does one fall from grace?"

-Armand

EP 04

"The red hands of clapping cattle are not the measure of the Theatre Des Vampires. If they were, then your mugging and pandering would have us standing room only to the decade."

-Armand

"It's not easy for me. You don't understand the danger I risk every night for you. How that danger compounds with every slight."

-Armand

"I keep your secret. What? What's the secret? Oh, I'm the secret. Do you notice how hot the room gets when you two talk about the secret?"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"A happy mistake then? You caught the soul he is hiding. So...tell me... what do you see?"

-Alois'

"One dark thing after another. Maybe I seek it out. Maybe I chase after it. Why? I don't know. But it's something to think about. Because even in between the dark things... there's something broken in me. A collision in me, like I wanna go bang. Well, go bang. Go flag it out or go cold. I mean, that's fine, then you'll be fine again. And then bang. And then okay, and then bang, and... You just get used to it, like weather."

-Romaine

EP O5

"Often it's someone carefully chosen for the harm he does the world with his chosen profession."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Dull nights, dull weeks, dull months, dull as fuck! Suffocation by the world's softest, beigest pillow! The ten hours I spent with that boy were more exciting, more fascinating than DECADES with you! Oh, there it is. The half-blank, half-apocalyptic look! But what does it mean tonight, huh? Does he want to lick my boots? Or chop my hands off? Is it the gremlin or the good nurse tonight? Huh?"

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"HE NAME! The name! Unuttered in our home for 23 years, said over and over again until it was pounding in my brain like a hammer!"

-Armand

"If you wanted escape from this prison of empathy I've locked you away in, all you had to do was ask, Louis."

-Armand

"Yeah, well, you don't know what human life is like. I mean you've forgotten, man. I mean you don't understand the meaning of your own story."

-Daniel Molloy

"Not sure that killing me was a totally warranted response to my idiocy."

-Daniel Molloy

EP 06

"I've been a third all my life. Not saying that to fight, just saying it's true. I feel like I get to pick one thing for myself."

-Claudia

" If you get scared, you just look at that light. Listen to my voice. I won't let anything go wrong."

-Claudia

"Don't worry about the blood. It's the blood that made you."

-Madeleine

" Stop it! Stop it. This is too important a moment in our story for these games."

-Armand

"Oh, is there a game being played?"

-Daniel Molloy

EP 07

"I was being hunted, and I was completely unaware it was happening."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Come to me. I need her not to die. Please.

A thousand nights of sulking, and the first sight of her, you were just gonna up and leave me?!

I am trying to restrain myself!

A last dance before the feast."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"And justice for the attempted murder of my being.

Hmm.

It's their turn to hurt.

He was back. In the flesh.

It had all the hallmarks of a hallucination.

Lestat, at last, come to kill us.

But no, he was real."

"It's a story of love wronged."

"The only sounds I heard were the weed roots growing around me.

My only sustenance, the ancient blood already inside me."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"I did what many have done when too many ghosts haunt the old world.

You left for the new one."

"I a vampire, was being hunted.

With every breath, every heartbeat, every sidelong glance."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Speaking your own unspeakable desires.

Screaming them in the darkness in the hopes that

I would come to you."

"Louis was fixated on the loss of his humanity, his estranged family, the internecine politics of his food.

He not only rejected vampirism, he also rejected you.

Louis was deceptively agile with words.

A trenchant form of verbal amusement."

"A word of context for our jury.

The single worst thing that a vampire can feel is loneliness.

Human loneliness magnified by millennia, by the never-ending road we walk."

"Claudia was an unforeseen joy.

A formidable fledgling.

A consummate killer,

a congenial companion."

"You still hope that

he'll emerge out of his melancholy.

That he'll love you like you love him."

-Santiago

"She's an artful predator.

I can say that now."

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"It's a lethal distance for a mortal.

But for a vampire?

It's a hard fall, nothing more.

Lestat has within his veins, a most ancient blood.

A godlike strength.

Remember, he put his fist through a priest's skull."

"I did it to hurt him.

And it did hurt him.

And afterwards he was a broken thing.

I know, I saw, because I am the one who broke him!

I couldn't persuade him to return my affections.

I couldn't force him to love me and so

I broke him.

What is worse than that?

Crushing what you cannot own?

I hurt the one

I hurt the only one"

-Lestat de Lioncourt

"What he does over and over.

Until you're left with no sense of what is and what is not."

-Daniel Molloy

EP 08

"49 years and thousands of miles removed from the room we shared in San Francisco.

I offer for your journalistic pleasures my life story.

Take us back to the beginning of this story of butchery."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"A quiet, easeful death.

What else would it be?

I had nowhere to go.

No one to talk to.

She was dead.

I knew it.

Claudia was dead.

I could feel it.

Like I couldn't feel my hands or my back.

Like I could feel my heart pumping slower every night.

Or my broken arm resetting itself.

My ankles healed in the coffin, the flesh having circled around the insulating rocks of my death bed."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Darkness was delirium.

I tried to paint alternatives.

Lucid what ifs."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"The worst nights were the pragmatic ones.

A rock shifts by my knee.

Could I make another rock move?

Could I free my knee to exploit the craftsmanship of the coffin?

But it was all ravings.

The rock hadn't moved.

The craftsmanship was solid."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"When a vampire starts screaming from starvation, he hasn't much time left.

I didn't know I was screaming.

I had no energy to scream.

If I had I would have used it to ignite the clothes on my body, self-immolate.

What was left to endure for?"

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"My rage had been denied blood.

My rage was lightheaded.

My rage killed without a single measure of satisfaction.

My rage found a forgotten crypt amongst the forgotten dead.

My rage hid its killings there.

Do your job.

And conspired with my madness on a plan for retribution."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"Maybe you were hedging your bets?

See who emerges from the ash heap."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"When a vampire commits himself to coffin, all the senses collapse into submission and the dark boundaries of the world begin to stretch out in all directions.

And in this state, in the lair where they slept, I could have been a marching band, or a jet engine taking off a tarmac.

Until Paris spun back round to the sun,

the advantage was mine."

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"And it made him an

uncomplicated seduction.

He brought a cloak to a knife fight.

And all my rage and

madness exited my body.

And nothing replaced it"

-Louis de Pointe du Lac

"But the fact, in and of itself,

makes your immediate."

"He and I are going to spend

the rest of our lives together.

And wherever your

miserable life takes you,

whoever you find to endure time with,

whatever pale proxy of me,

I'll be with him.

Just wanted you to know that."

"The pain of it has left you.

Don't let an insignificant detail, delivered from an insignificant mortal

You have forgiven me for what part I played in her death!

And time has opened back up to us and we are once again teachers of one another."

"Shall we list all the ways we have wronged each other and why it'll never be right between monstrous I came to thank you.

For the gift you offered me.

The gift I denied.

For the nights in front of me, where I might learn to live honestly."

SEASON 3

EP O1

"But then there's that old saying.

You fool me once, shame on me.

You fool me twice, MDMA and LSD are excellent drugs."

"It's not the capstone of vampiric desires.

That would be the taking of life, and next would be a good draining,

leaving your victim near death and paralyzed for an unhurried escape."

"Carnal pleasure is essential to a vampire's survival, if only to keep time's baggage

from burying you."

"Anything I had done to deserve their timely rescue hadn't happened yet."

"There's nothing there

But water waiting to fall."

"But I was saved from such rational thought.

Love will do that to you."

"I assume a privileged individual such as yourself enjoys a little dirt in their sandwich.

So I serve it to you now"

EP 02

"She had a cold beauty, like snow behind a thick, distorting wall of glass."

"But willful ignorance is sleep in a giant's hand."

"The songs are not about you.

It feels like a cry for help.

So I flew in because I care."

"He's not my companion.

He's a great lay and emotionally unavailable."

"And I have this weird thing that happens where, suddenly, everyone around me disappears, like the rapture has come,"

"An aloof poetry behind the eyes.

Uncanny beauty.

An elusiveness."

"I think that's really important.

It's like, you know me, who I really am, you know where I came from, you know what my fundamental drive is.

And you remember me as a human being before I was this other thing."

EP 03

"What struck my heart was the way that his whole body leaned into the music."

"I was an actor at a second-tier theatre, squatting in a beheaded nobleman's flat

with a severely depressed lover."

"Our favorite game you lie, and I believe you."

"My love was a small box that I kept him in."

"He's a terrifying, vulnerable creature"

EP 04

"There's not room enough in this box for your desperation."

"Clichés about the road can be concussive, but it doesn't make them conclusive."

"Should your privileged purse strings become interested in pursuing the actual truth of our recent apocalyptic adversities, look no further than that watchful order of the river of discreet money flowing in dark directions."

"And as part of this journey, I wish to read you something I've written from the deepest regions of my soul."

"Instead, you use my lover as bait to draw me and my mother into your underground death orgy."

EP 05

"You're the only one watching me like I'm Netflix."

"But if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the 7,000-square-foot model I endured in the fall of 2025,

while I recorded my posthumously-produced album that Pitchfork would trash

and for which the world shouts in feeble attempts to explain away clearly attributable

devastation, "J'accuse." But I, Amel, digress."

"It has to sound like death approaching."

"Fill the space with worldly things.

Go into the noise and dust of the city, and bring back presents of the present."

"Learn to endure the depths of living."

"I don't like being alone.

I slip, trip, stumble, fumble in small ways."

"He faked us, high and dry when we needed him most.

All cheap and easy nonfiction ends in death."

"No, I've come to enjoy you all very much, but let me tell you something about this blood.

Let me save you from myself.

I was on the shores of Spain when my great love left me.

She, she, she, it is she

I let myself be buried in a stranger's grave, until a queen took pity and summoned me to service.

It is often she.

And in the old songs and in the long nights, she holds him in the softness of her arms,

in her arms that are open, in her arms that are wide, that are open, that are always, that must always be open.

And in the old ways and in the old laws, this was arranged.

All this was arranged."

"It already owns you.

May madness or sunlight relieve you of the burden.

And in my eyes is desire, and why is it desire?"

"Beautifully played, but it's also very twisted.

It was so weird, but, like, so comedically written that it was hard to not have fun with it."

EP 06

"At the intersections

of my many selves

the stutterer, the ape,

the actor, the keeper,

the tourist,

the recluse,

the rock star,

the nesting dolls of identity

there is a period of stasis,

a hibernation in shabby robe."

"Now a dark, gifted quartet.

But Larry's then mysterious suicide wove itself into our bond, and the Vampire Alex became the muted center of a haunted reunion.

Early risers like us are few."

"No good's gonna come of this.

I can feel it in my fingers.

There's also a third possibility that nothing will come of it.

You know, these things don't always take.

Sit around the table thinking that you feel a chill or somebody's eye twitches.

And really, it's a radiator or too much coffee, and nothing happens.

And then the witch or medium lays blame

-on someone's divergent energy."

"No, it's a complicated, multifaceted set of circumstances."

"I spent a month and a half talking you back from unimaginable frenzy in the middle of my own fracturing!"

"-The blame. The blame.

If we can find the blame, if we agree on the blame, then it's all mapped, the why we are, the why we do.

I conduct the chaos.

She's one of the many chainsaws I juggle."

"They ripped you away from me.

And and I can't let you go.

It's there at the bottom of everything.

I wanted to blot that out.

I wanted to say the goodbye

I didn't get to say and tell you

I hope you found a bit of a bit of quiet."

"Oh, yeah, that's what I want to be, car fuel for your self-pity.

Listen to your sad sorrys."

"I knew I could count on you to trail me,

like a dumb dog anywhere I went, until I could ditch your ass for something more worthy of me."

"I hate you!

More than anything and anyone I have ever known,

more than my dad that left me,

more than my auntie that whipped me,

more than Bruce that stuck it in me,

more than the pack of vamps that seduced and burned me!

I hate you to the pit of all things."

"Clearly, somewhere in the self-destructive scaffolding I house my heart in, I wanted it known.

But where I am a mystery to myself is why I wanted it now, the night before I go on stage, the hour before the witch arrives."

"Maybe it's just the vampire's burden.

What do you replace death with?

What's to live for if there's no end?

Maybe it's just how you keep your night straight."

"The idea of the seance is really wonderful.

This is not something you want to explore.

This is not something you want to know about and this is not somewhere you want to go."

"It's a kind of like, perfect anthem for their love story.

There's that wonderful feeling where she is the most important person in the room, and suddenly she isn't."

EP 07

"And then I think, why is he here?

And then the world pivots.

And I see stars in the sky.

Boots upside down.

My blood, a half-painted moon.

And then I'm dreaming.

I'm walking a path. I am listening to hidden birds in a forest

and transcribing their chatter into music on paper.

It's the same dream I've been having since I finished the album

and faked my death, except now I'm hungry and it's daylight all around.

And as I'm a vampire, confirmed by the glass nails on my fingers,

I should be burning, but I'm not.

The birds' music becomes repetitive.

And then the forest goes quiet.

No birds singing.

I am left with my hunger, a feeling like my stomach is eroding from the inside.

And then, as if the forest has heard my thoughts,

a murder of waiters carrying silver-domed tray take over my path."

"All of which was made worse by our heady lovemaking

throughout this period of betrayal, and the second."

"Many times, I told myself the lie did not matter because what we had built, a love that served as a bunker

against time, was weightier and more consequential than the lie, but it wasn't true."

"I think I might be a room without walls, floors, a ceiling.

An infinite nothing."

"The merciful universe acknowledging your need to grieve and her need for saving."

"There's a years-long tale of seduction and cold commerce."
